Martin Walfisz distracted by games, technology and politics.
Hello there! It’s been a long time since the previous issue of my random thoughts and reflections. Life got in the way (all good and exciting) but I can’t help but go at it again.
I certainly aim to get issues out more than once in a blue moon. Please have patience with me, and I hope that you occasionally will find something worthwhile in my musings… :)
It’s just amazing how successful Supercell is. Follow the link for an overview of how all their games are doing. Un-be-liev-able. I’m not actively playing any Supercell games right now, but certainly looking forward to trying Rush Wars.
And if you want more on Supercell, Ilkka (CEO) shared some interesting thoughts a while ago. Not least their efforts on minimizing environmental impact (at the very bottom of the post).
Spelkollektivet is such a great initiative; they are now offering a scholarship program where indie game teams can get two months of free room and board. Hats off to James Newnorth and everyone involved!
Wait But Why is out with a new series. Tim Urban always writes fantastically insightful articles , so I can’t wait to read his latest ponderings. If you’re new to WBW I can highly recommend The AI Revolution and The Elon Musk Series (but you should check out all their stuff).
Speaking of Elon; I got myself a Tesla Model 3 about six months ago, and I just can’t stop talking about it (to my friends vexation). What a fantastic car! As the reviewer from down-under says: “Make no mistake – it is hard not to fall in love with this car.”
I’ll return soon with more musings on electric (and autonomous) cars. What a wonderful world we live in. :)
Disregarding the article headline (although that’s also an achievement), don’t miss the video at the top of the link. Elon Musk debating Jack Ma (Alibaba) on AI at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
I have to admit it, I’m an Elon fanboy, but he has some amazing insights on why we should be concerned about AI and technology development. Listen carefully to what he says.
The video is 48 minutes, so I highly recommend to set aside some me-time this weekend.
Good old gold
These stories were published a while ago. But I think that they are still highly interesting to read, when you have a moment to spare.
This is just a stunning collection of hundred year old color photos. If you squint, some images look almost like they could be from today. And here’s another impressive collection of photos from Russia.
